Last September in St. Feliu. Swimming in a brilliant blue sea full of jellyfish. I thought I was going to explode.

I’m a sucker for spring.

I enjoy the Russian literature but have not read War and Peace. My favorite book is The Moviegoer by Walker Percy.
4) What is one piece of advice that you want to share with the world?
I always want to steal Derek Smalls, Spinal Tap advice — “have a good time…all the time”. Really though,I would merely encourage people not to worry about who they are or what they do. Pure individualism (not computer enhanced — the old IRL) is a dying art. And we all end up in the same place anyway.
5) What mood are you in RIGHT NOW.
I just finished fasting for a week. So my mood would have to be described as dizzy, hungry and absolutely ecstatic.

1) What was your favorite day, ever?
Oh my, that is a tough question… There have been so many days it’s hard to pick a single favorite. Perhaps I could lean towards a nice Spring day. The kind that is a bit chilly in the morning, but the sun and coffee quickly warms you up and next thing you know you end up meeting friends by a barbecue and pulling beer out of a styrofoam cooler and looking for someone who knows how to get the bottle cap off with a lighter. Then maybe you swim in a lake or throw a frisbee or go to a ballgame. And end up on someone’s porch with some tiki torches lit and all the chairs collected in a circle that gets smaller and smaller as the night grows on. I’ve had that day happen and it was my favorite.
2) What is your favorite season?
ski season. Also known as winter. Although this is the worst season for touring, skiing makes up for it.
3) Have you read War and Peace yet? If not, what is your favorite book?
haha- have not read War and Peace YET. My favorite book jumps around a bit, but for the last 2 years it has been What is the What by Dave Eggars. I’m a big Eggars fan and it was nice to read a novel of his that felt like it had a real passionate purpose.
4) What is one piece of advice that you want to share with the world?
“Don’t shit where you eat my friend.” –GW

Right now I’m pretty relaxed. I just cleaned some kitty litter so I am a bit nervous of the kitty litter aroma on my hands. Do I have cat poo on my hands or is this terrible chemical scent sanitary? I need to wash my hands.

No, although I have read “Anna Karenina.” I have too many favorite books to select one. Just now I have finished Anthony Powell’s magnificent masterpiece of human comedy, the 12-volume “Dance to the Music of Time.”

1) What was your favorite day, ever?
In the summer of 1992, I was 13 years old and had this amazing day where I went to the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) and almost got beat up by some white thugs but I narrowly escaped. Then I went to an arcade with my friend Dan and got 2 replays on Black Rose pinball, then when I got home there was this amazing sandwich waiting for me. That was probably it.
2) What is your favorite season?
Summer because I still see my life as a series of academic years. Though, for some reason all white people really love the fall.
3) Have you read War and Peace yet? If not, what is your favorite book?
I read a comic book version of War and Peace when I was 14 (not kidding). My favorite book is A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle. It was the first book I remember loving as a kid that was not an athlete biography (my previous favorite was Throwin’ Heat by Nolan Ryan).
4) What is one piece of advice that you want to share with the world?
I would want to share advice with every nerdy teenage boy in the world: asking out a girl will not make things weird. Even if she says no.
5) What mood are you in RIGHT NOW.
I’m in a fantastic mood since it feels like summer in LA.

I can’t remember. My brain turns everything into a weird soup of sensations and memories that might be dreams or might be real. I think I might actually have some kind of problem.

I like how you imply that anyone who reads War & Peace then has it as their favorite book. Yes, I’ve read it and yes, it’s my favorite book. You got me.

When you’ve been in this business as long as I have, kid, you learn a few things. Some rules of the road. Tricks of the trade as they say. Here’s one I picked up a few years back when I was gigging up and down the central valley: No shorts on stage.
Just kidding. I don’t have anything. I went through a brief period of annoying preachiness in my songs but it doesn’t work, and if it does it’s because many people out there are desperate to blindly follow something, which is even more depressing than the huge problems we humans face.
Maybe my advice could be “consider every angle”.

I have tried about four times and not managed to get past page 50. I have read Anna Karenina and it is great. However, The Great Gatsby is my obvious but genuine choice for favorite book ever.
